Ernest Epps cuts a ribbon which opens Epps Road near his home.
The portion of Farm to Market 35 from Interstate 30 south to the city limits is named to honor the long-time civic leader and good neighbor, and had been shut down while the bridge was rebuilt. His daughter Beverly Epps, son Carl Epps, sister Linda Edwards of Dallas, and nieces Tiffany Epps Felder and Terressa Ferrell, and first cousin James Warren were present for the ribbon cutting. Not present was his daughter Ernest Faye Franklin...Epps moved to Royse City in 1954. He served nine years on the city council, several years on the planning and zoning commission, and was the chairman of the board of the housing authority...Epps took the first drive across the bridge, and then, almost immediately, about 10 vehicles came over the bridge from the east, and then several from the west, including a man who grinned and gave a cheerful yell out the window to all those gathered at the roadside as the ceremony broke up.
